New student checklist
Welcome to CBS.
As a new student this 'to do' list will step you through the administrative tasks you need to complete to ensure a smooth and successful start your studies.
Organise a student identification card
Organise having your photo taken for your ID card when you come to campus for enrolment.
You will need this card for after-hours access to the university building and facilities. It also doubles as your library card.
ID Cards can be obtained from Central Administration, Building 101
Arrange a parking permit
You can purchase a green parking permit through the Australia Post office or online/telephone using the Australia Post Billpay service.
You must obtain a parking permit for first semester. Guild members get a discount on parking. If you only have classes in the evening, you may not need a parking permit at all.
Get your textbooks before the start of semester
All of your textbooks should be available at the university bookshop before the beginning of the semester.
The bookshop has a facility for online ordering. Please note, when ordering textbooks online, you are asked to enter your course code, you need to enter the unit code for each unit you are interested in. Also, if the unit code is a four digit number, you need to add a leading eg, 1234, enter 01234. See unit information for codes:
» Undergraduate unit information
» Postgraduate unit information
Curtin also has a secondhand bookshop where you will find secondhand textbooks at discounted prices.
Organise your timetable
You can view timetable and unit information online throughout the year.
In the first week of each unit you will be given a unit outline that provides a run-down of the topics that will be covered at each lecture as well as an outline of the assessment tasks that you will be required to complete throughout the semester. Take care of these outlines; you will need to refer to them often.
