Time management

How you manage your time once semester begins may affect your success, health and happiness. As well as study commitments, you may have commitments to family, other close relationships, a social life, employment, sports and other activities. At times, juggling all or some of these can be very stressful.

Plan and prioritise

Decide on your priorities. In busy weeks you may not be able to satisfy all demands. With careful planning and some discipline, you can fit many of these commitments into your life.

The key is to plan your semester.

  • Identify due dates for all of your assignments and assessments, and work backwards from these to assign time for planning, research, and writing assignments.
  • Be generous with research time, as it can take longer than anticipated.
  • Slot in time for relaxation and other activities you need to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

Students who plan their tasks and work consistently throughout the semester generally are more successful and maintain a more balanced life than those who are less organised.
