Theodora Issa
Theodora is a PhD student with the School of Management whose research focuses on the study of individuals (i.e. employees), their values, their individual differences as expressed in spirituality, and aesthetic judgement, and the relationship of factors into the individual’s ethical behaviour and ethical decision-making in an Australian business context.
This research would provide useful insight into ethical failure in business in particular, and business failure in general which is particularly timely given that such failures are now on the increase, despite an increase in regulations, codes of conduct and standards in all aspects of business. It is anticipated that it will have a practical value, since the findings may assist organisations to better evaluate their employees by incorporating the values in their recruitment requirements, employee codes of conduct and value statements. The findings may also contribute to the development of knowledge in the area since future replications can be conducted either in different industries, countries, or involve the examination of further individual values. Theodora is interested in collaborative research.

Dr Farookh Hussain
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Farookh Hussain is currently a DEBII Target Research Fellow at the Digital Ecosystems and Business Intelligence (DEBI) Institute, Curtin University of Technology. Dr Hussain along with Professor Elizabeth Chang and Professor Tharam Dillon has written a seminal book on – ‘Trust and Reputation for Service Oriented Environments: Technologies for Building Business Intelligence and Consumer Confidence’ published by John Wiley and Sons in 2006. This book is very highly regarded in the international community. It has received over 20 citations so far.
Dr Hussain has co-edited two conference proceedings, published over ten journal publications in various international tier one IEEE/ACM Journals, over 6 book chapters in internationally prestigious books and over 80 conference papers in various refereed conferences. He has received two best paper awards in international IEEE/ACM conferences and one best presentation award at an international IEEE conference and one best tutorial award and has been on the program committee for international IEEE/ACM conferences and served as conference technical program co-chair and the track chair in several international IEEE/ACM conferences. Dr Hussain undertakes the role of coordinating research training at DEBII.

Dr Maja Hadzic
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Maja Hadzic’s research interest is in the area of human disease study and control, through ICT support and she is finishing a joint authored book to be published by John Wiley and Sons in 2007. Over the last three years, she has also participated in four large National Competitive grant applications; 2 as APID and 2 as an Associate Investigator. She has helped obtain $150,000 industry cash commitment to support these grant applications.
Dr Hadzic has been a Medical Research fellow for 3.5 years at the University of Newcastle where she was examining the effects of various genes and proteins on specific human diseases and supporting drug design. During her employment, she helped supervision of PhD and Masters students. She obtained a Masters degree in Biochemistry from Belgium in 1999 and PhD in Information Systems from Curtin University of Technology in 2006. These solid studies form a strong foundation for her future achievements. Her area of research is ground breaking in the area of health informatics and will revolutionise the way that research can be done in the area of disease research. It is in line with the current trend of health research which is increasingly moving towards the use of information systems as research tools rather then purely experimental studies.

Dr Pornpit Wongthongtham
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Pornpit Wongthongtham’s research areas are in ontology and software engineering which is affirmed through her publications in internationally journals and refereed conference proceedings. Most of her publications are in the top ranked conferences including IEEE and ACM. She is also now completing a book entitled ‘Engineering of Ontology and Multi-agent Systems’ that will be published in 2007 by Wiley publications. Besides a substantially number of scientific publications, she has been invited to undertake roles such as on several international program committees, technical program chair and as track chair for a number of leading conferences.
Dr Wongthongtham has also been awarded several fellowships, for example, from the Thai-Australia Science and Engineering Assistance Project (TASEAP). She works in an entirely new area that utilises ontology for multi-site software development. Dr Wongthongtham has developed a very new approach using ontologies, a shared conceptualisation of knowledge in software development. There is almost no-one in Australia, in fact, very few people around the world who have these skills and capabilities because it is an entirely new area that has been opened up, which was the subject of an Australian Research Council grant.

Dr Alex Talevski
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Alex Talevski is an ARC funded Research Fellow. His research interests are component-based software engineering, mobile telecommunication related software development issues and software evolution. Dr Talevski has co-authored more than twenty scientific publications that include IEEE Transaction journals. Two of his publications have won best-paper awards. His PhD thesis was entitled ‘Reconfigurable Plug-and-Play Component-Based Software Framework’. He has also been involved in a number of software development projects at various levels. Most recently, he was software development team leader of more than fifteen team members in the construction of a $0.5M Supply-Chain Management (SCM) solution. This solution promoted the collaboration of a number of logistics service providers in an extended enterprise.

Dr Song Han
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Song Han graduated from Peking University (one of best universities in Science in P.R. China) in 1998 to pursue a Master of Mathematics and, as an excellent student, completed his PhD in 2003 in Mathematics, especially in cryptography and information security at Peking University. His research work is not only in cryptography and information security but also in pure mathematics, such as group theory, elliptic curves and so forth. He has been lectured in Advanced Mathematics and is capable of teaching most information security and computer science courses. His research also covers the anonymity of information security; he developed the concept of fair anonymity of undeniable signature scheme and successfully designed a protocol satisfying the required properties.
Dr Han also applied certain theory and tools of elliptic curves, such as Weil paring, to the group signature and blind signature to obtain the anonymity. He published numerous scientific papers in these areas. He has also worked at the City University of Hong Kong, and he has been a Visiting Fellow at Curtin’s Department of Computing.

Dr Guimin Huang
DEBII Research Fellow, Dr Guimin Huang has over fifteen years of professional experience as a senior engineer, technical leader, project manger, as well as being an Associate Professor in information technology domains. He was awarded a PhD in Computing at the East China University of Science and Technology in P.R. of China in 2005. His PhD work has led to seven industry information technology development projects. He has also taken charge of a Guangxi Natural Science Fund project, one Guangxi Science Research and Technology Development Fund project, one Information Industry Ministry of China Electronic Fund project and taken part in several National Fund projects.
In addition to his excellent work and research experiences, several of his papers have been published or accepted. In these papers, a web Quality of Service based on differentiated services mechanism is implemented based on the Window real-time scheduling policy to decrease the miss rates of requests in web services. And also, these papers propose the high priority first algorithm to implement differentiated services of request responses for web services. His thinking contributed to the design and development of the next web services framework.
