Objectives


Areas of focus
  • Committed to the development of high quality multidisciplinary research and development in collaboration with business, health, education, and industry.
   
  • Primarily concerned with applications driven research that is strategically positioned to be capable of opening up new vistas in the healthcare, mining, energy and logistics industries as well as marketing, management, accounting and the networked economy and information infrastructure within these domains.

  • Addresses two of the priority areas in the Curtin Research Plan namely ‘Information and Communication’ and ‘Growth and Prosperity’.  Industry appreciation and recognition of the research has already been demonstrated by their expressed willingness to participate in the program and, most importantly by their contribution in funds.  The formal establishment of DEBII helps to develop these relationships further.  


Grants
Currently, DEBII holds 10 large ARC grants and the research fields are tied into the ARC priority areas of frontier technology and smart information use.

Publications
The Institute will produce at least 80 journal publications, 300 refereed international conference publications, 30 book chapters, 3 authored books and 3 edited books. 

Five year objective

Over the next 5 years, the Institute will make at least two large ARC Linkage grant applications and two ARC Discovery grants per year.  These grant projects will link with contacts in State Government agencies to:

  • provide funds for projects of interest
  • seek funds from business and the health care sector to support work at the DEBI Institute
  • pursue opportunities for joint applications with industry partners for research projects and
  • seek consulting opportunities nationally and internationally.
