Higher degree by research programs
The GSB offers three Higher Degree by Research (HDR) programs:
- Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Masters of Philosphy (research) (M.Comm)
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is the highest university award given in the field of business administration. Designed to challenge the foundations upon which traditional business has been laid, the Curtin DBA allows students to combine coursework with a major research thesis.
The Curtin DBA program attracts exceptional candidates who have embarked on a corporate career but find they wish to focus more deeply on the study of business phenomena and advance their knowledge in their discipline.
The program consists of six coursework units covering qualitative and quantitative research methods, philosophy and business management and business strategies.
The coursework component requires one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study. Students then have a further 2 years (full-time) or 4 years (part-time) to complete their thesis.
Applicants to the program must have an average of 75% or higher in a masters degree. Students from a non-business background may be required to undertake some bridging units. Applicants must also have at least seven years post-degree work experience and will be required to attend an interview as part of the admission process.
The Doctor of Philosophy is a supervised research degree which may be undertaken through the Graduate School of Business provided appropriate supervisors are available.
View Curtin's register of PhD supervisors.
Prospective students should submit a preliminary thesis proposal together with a CV to the Thesis Director who will then ascertain whether there are any supervisors willing and able to supervise you should your application be approved.
Visit Curtin's Research website for more details on what is required in a preliminary thesis proposal and eligibility requirements.
