Honours Testimonials
What do previous students have to say about an Honours degree?
The School of Marketing Honours program has been running in its current format since 2003. The program has allowed a select group of students each year to further advance their knowledge and opportunities. Former Honours graduates have gone straight into executive positions within large corporations, while some have chosen to continue to study their Masters or PhD.
The following are testimonials from students that have successfully completed the School of Marketing Honours program:
"The Honours program really expanded my knowledge of research and what it involves. Writing my own thesis and conducting my own research was a challenging yet rewarding experience and I felt the Honours program enhanced my ability to think analytically and critically".
Rebecca Nadilo, Honours Class 2008
"The Honours program was a far cry from the usual undergraduate degree, for a start I worked on a one on one basis with my supervisor and learnt more about the industry, research methods and my own abilities than I had before. The Honours program was a greater test than my undergraduate degree had been, but it was well rewarded, putting me above other candidates in the workforce when I graduated."
Amy Vinden, Honours Class 2007
"An Honours degree at School of Marketing was unique in a sense that, I had the opportunity to work with my supervisor on a one to one basis. You learn so much from your supervisor about the industry, the research process and your own abilities. It was a fantastic learning experience personally and professionally. It is a MUST for students wanting to be an academic in the future."
Michael Lwin, Honours Class 2006
"Undoubtedly, undertaking an honours year was one of the best decisions I've made. It's so very easy to drift through your undergrad, not put in too much effort and get your $20,000 piece of paper at the end. However, you quickly find that thousands of other people have done the same thing and you all end up going for the same positions. I ended up competing against 73 other people for my graduate position at Tourism WA, and it was my honours work that helped separate me from the pack. Not only that, but you probably learn more in one year of honours then you do in three years of undergrad. It's definitely worth it."
Brett Bylsma, Honours Class 2005.
"The Marketing Honours program is full of challenges and opportunities. My honest opinion is that an honours program is an exceptional course for those who are willing to excel and learn more from their current field of study. I thoroughly enjoyed the course with all my fellow colleagues and supervisor, which has made it a worthwhile experience, and feel that the course doesn’t only help you to grow academically, but also teaches self-discipline and improves confidence. In short, the honours program is a very challenging one; however the prospects at the end are very rewarding."
Isaac Cheah, Honours Class 2005.
"My honours year went a step above my undergraduate degree and taught me invaluable skills to equip me for the workforce. The first question any potential honours student asks themselves is "is the extra year of study really worth it?", and for those ready for an intense period of academic study, the answer is most definitely yes. My honours degree puts me above other candidates in the workforce, a fact any of my subsequent employers would attest to. If you are motivated, dedicated, enthusiastic and determined to get ahead of the pack, I would highly recommend a School of Marketing Honours degree."
